From hanging posters to hosting assemblies, students are doing amazing things to spread autism awareness in their communities.
- You can read autism facts during the morning announcements.
- Invite a speaker to your school to discuss autism. Contact your local Autism Speaks office to find a speaker.
- Show Autism Every Day, a powerful video that showcases everyday life with a child on the spectrum.
- Decorate your school’s bulletin board with information about autism.
- Read an autism fact over the loud speaker every morning during announcements.
- A student can write a letter to the local newspaper or school paper to discuss their awareness project and how they are helping to raise awareness in the community.
- If your school has a TV station, ask if they can post some information on autism.
- Dress Down Day for autism.
- Work with the art department and host a banner contest. The banners can be posted around the school for students to vote on.
- Hold an art show featuring artwork by children with autism.
- For elementary school children, you can show the Autism Acceptance PowerPoint Presentation, or read a book selection from our autism book list during story hour.
